Nepal, India, Malaysia, the Maldives, and Sri Lanka are among those capitalizing on the popularity of TV shows and movies to attract travelers. These countries are incentivizing filmmakers, facilitating location scouting, and planning film cities to amplify their appeal.

Nepal, famed for its stunning landscapes, saw a rise in Indian tourists after Bollywood movies like "Uunchai (Altitude)" filmed in the Mount Everest region. To further leverage this, the government plans film cities near Pokhara and Kathmandu, aiming to partner with Indian experts for filming facilities and ease processes for film production.

Malaysia offers the Filming in Malaysia Incentive (FIMI), providing rebates on production expenses, including an additional rebate for films featuring local art and culture. Bollywood films have notably spotlighted Malaysian destinations like Langkawi, boosting their appeal.

The Maldives is considering establishing a studio island by 2025, integrating production facilities with a resort to attract filmmakers. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka explores a single-window application system to facilitate film production, recognizing the power of screen content in spotlighting lesser-known destinations.

Screen productions not only elevate destination profiles but also invigorate local film industries. Australian destinations like the Gold Coast have drawn attention due to significant screen developments, hosting prestigious industry events and benefitting local businesses, including hotels experiencing a surge in bookings after featuring in film productions.

Recognizing film tourism's potential, India introduced a draft National Strategy on Film Tourism. Leveraging natural and cultural assets, India aims to become a global film tourism destination, acknowledging the profound impact of movies on destination perception, investments, job creation, and economic growth.
