A documentary on the adverse impact of climate change in Nepal has been screened at the 27th Conference of Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 27) currently underway in Sharm el-Sheikh of Egypt. COP 27 commenced on November 6 and will conclude on November 18.

The documentary titled Voice for Climate Justice covers the main damage caused by climate change from the high Himalayas, central mountains to the Terai in Nepal.

On behalf of Nepal, a team including forest and environment experts led by the Minister of Women, Children and Senior Citizens Uma Regmi is participating in the conference.

A documentary prepared by the foundation was shown along with the Nepal report. The documentary was written and directed by senior journalist Balkrishna Basnet.

The documentary especially talks about the impact of climate change on women and children in the Himalayan region.

The documentary covers the loss of snow in the mountains including the highest peak Mt Everest, the damage caused by the melting of thick glaciers, floods and landslides, and the damage caused by unseasonal rains.

It also includes the damage caused by the rains in Dolpa this year from the painful scene of flood landslides in Sindhupalchok’s Helambu and Melamchi areas on March 8 last year by 40 women leaders from different areas, trekking to Kalapathar.
