As the abrupt changes of this world with the evolving of new technologies have taken place, it seems, photography and photojournalism have also been playing a crucial role in describing stories. Being one of the most important branches of journalism, photojournalism continues to move us through visuals, which has extreme significance to the field of news. The French photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson, whose spontaneous photographs enabled to solidify photo of journalism as an art form.
However, photographs have a huge amount of contribution to spreading fake news during this modern period of journalism. ‘Fake news‘ is those news stories, that themselves are forged with no verifiable facts or sources. As most people find their news stories online, photographs can be used to manipulate a reader’s emotions to, see a story.
Photography is the universal language, through which we can understand anyone no matter even if they speak another language. Nonetheless, due to the current technology, the significance, or context of a news story can be altered or manipulated easily while it has also become hazardous to detect the fact behind the image. Again, by capturing before and after photos of the exact scene by creating a series, it is an easy task to lie through photographs.
